Many men are shocked to realize that their pelvic floor muscles are just as important as female pelvic floor muscles.

Our pelvic floor muscles have many functions but their 3 main functions are for sphincter control (bowel/bladder), sexual function and core strength. Your first physio assessment may include an interanal exam of the pelvic floor muscles. Because these muscles are deep inside the pelvis, doing an internal exam is the most effective way to assess them.

Here is a list of some of the common conditions we treat for men:

  • Prostatitis (can include pain in bladder, penis, testicles, anus, tailbone, etc.)
  • Levator ani syndrome
  • Bladder problems (incontinence/post void dribble)
  • Bowel problems (incontinence/constipation)
  • Pudendal neuralgia
  • Pelvic post op care (ie. prostate surgery)

See sexual health section for other conditions treated for men.
