Many men are shocked to realize that their pelvic floor muscles are just as important for their health as female pelvic floor muscles. Additionally, many men neglect their own care or are embarrassed to discuss sensitive issues with their doctor, and this can have long-lasting impacts on their own emotional, mental and physical health.
Our pelvic floor muscles have many functions but their 3 main functions are for sphincter control (bowel/bladder), sexual function and core strength. Your first physio assessment may include an internal exam of the pelvic floor muscles. Because these muscles are deep inside the pelvis, doing an internal exam is an effective way to assess them.
